A busy, busy morning. Kim got the plumber here on a one-day notice. They moved the service in the utility so we can put the sink in. Then he also got the ice maker feed ready so we could set the island in the kitchen. The refrigerator sits right at the end of the island, so they have to fit together. That means both water and electricity to the island. And that, in turn means we have to decide where the island goes.  Spent half an hour moving it back and forth and saying, 'how does that feel, look, etc.'

One reason the plumbing went so fast is the new material they use for water lines. This is some sort of 'memory material.' It is a plastic pipe, very small diameter, it seems to me. The plumber uses a funny little tool to expand the fittings. Then he slips the fitting on the pipe and stands back. The material resumes its original shape and size, and the connection is finished and water tight. It is very impressive stuff.

While the plumber was doing that, Charlie was cutting a chase into the ceiling above the range. Turns out there is plenty of room. So he put in the venting for a range hood. So far, all our problems have turned out to be solvable.
